What we can help with
We are a small editorial team and we answer everything a person sends, though not always quickly. The messages we can act on fastest are corrections, questions about how a score was reached, and requests for categories we have not yet covered.
- Corrections. If a standard has changed, a filter permission has been revised, or we have simply got something wrong, tell us. We will correct the page and note the date.
- Questions about a score. Every score comes from the five weighted criteria on our method page. If a number does not make sense to you, ask and we will explain the working.
- Category requests. If there is a sun protection decision we have not covered, it is useful to know.
- Press and syndication. Journalists are welcome to quote any page with attribution and a link.
What we cannot help with
- Individual medical questions. We cannot advise on your skin, a reaction or a mole. A pharmacist or GP can, and should.
- Product recommendations. We do not name products, so we cannot tell you which bottle to buy. The category reviews are designed to let you work that out at the shelf.
- Product samples and review requests. We do not review products and cannot accept samples. Anything sent will not be returned.
- Paid placement, sponsorship or affiliate arrangements. We do not offer any, at any price.
Reporting a reaction to a cosmetic product
If a sunscreen has caused a reaction, the first step is a pharmacist or GP. To report a safety concern about a cosmetic product sold in the UK, contact the trading standards service through the Citizens Advice consumer helpline, since sunscreen is regulated as a cosmetic rather than as a medicine. The MHRA handles medicines and medical devices and is not the route for a cosmetic complaint.
